Abelardo Gonzalez has together with selected partners designed the refurbishment/renovation of a 1905 fin de siècle flat in Malmö.

After many years of various refurbishments and changes, the building’s original qualities have been recreated. By removing the drop ceilings and several dividing walls, the original plan with its central axis can once again be discovered, dividing the private from the more public areas in a light and airy flat. This balance between the private and public, along a strong linear axis, has been a central ambition to the project and turned into a modern vision for how to create a space for living with a clear focus on atmosphere and function.

It has also been important to show the contrast between the old and the new - the ambition has been to re-use existing parts of the building, in the most extensive way possible, and to mix these with new materials. This has together resulted in a bold rendez-vous between clean Scandinavian design and fiery, exuberant Latin American drama.
